A true old
Highway 101 Roadhouse!
2828 Avenue of the Giants
Phillipsville, California 95559
The Riverwood Inn has a full bar, rooms,
and the best Mexican food in the world; plus live music on
most Friday and Saturday nights!
The Riverwood Inn
was built in 1937 and is the last of the old roadhouses that
populated the Avenue of the Giants which also used to be Highway
101. During the floods of
1964, the Eel River washed away most of the small towns along the
Avenue but the river only came up to the back door of the Riverwood,
sparing this beautiful building. The building creaks and groans and
we do have a documented ghost, however, he mostly restricts himself
to the bar hallway and the upstairs banquet
room.
During the summer
months, the Riverwood Inn is a favorite stop for motorcycle and car
clubs that travel the stunning Avenue of the Giants. Many
groups call ahead and make special preparations for large lunch and
dinner groups or room reservations. Travelers can enjoy our
special rates when they make the Riverwood their home base for a
long weekend in the Redwoods. We are within an hour of
Shelter Cove to the west and Victorian Ferndale to the north and we
can even direct you to our favorite swim holes on the winding Eel
River.

Besides being a full
bar and inn, we also serve the best authentic Mexican food at
the El Rio Restaurant located
within the Riverwood Inn. The servings are plentiful
and affordable! We have a game room with pool tables and video
games. Children are welcome during our dining hours. We also have
live music and feature a great dance floor. Some of our recent bands
have been John Lee Hooker Jr., Norton Buffalo and the
Knockouts and Guitar Shorty. The
Riverwood is homey, comfortable and welcoming, especially during the
winter months when a roaring fire will greet you as you come in the
door. We are open year round.
